Genna (Christmas) in Lalibela is always celebrated by thousands of pilgrims who came from all corner of the country. Some of them even walk for more than a month to reach this holy town, believing their sin to be forgiven if they made it on foot.
From the 4th - the 8th the churches are full of Pilgrims. On the 5th January there will be a big overnight service taking place in Bete Emanuel church, and on the 6th night to the 7th January morning the colour full Gena will be celebrated at Bete Mariam church.
Anyone can attend both overnight festivals.
